The Wild Brunch at Mac and Wild, Fitzrovia

File_000 (8).jpeg

Having previously lived with a passionate Scot, I had already experienced home-made Scottish breakfast, inclusive of lorne sausage (aka square sausage), tatty scones and  white pudding, so I knew I was in for a treat when I was offered the chance to check out Mac and Wild’s new weekend brunch offering.

Roll on a rainy August Saturday morning in London and after a short walk from Oxford Circus station, I was greeted by the friendliest staff before bumping into food blogger’s Franny Mac and Loved By Laura (look out for their review posts too!).

I always like to start off brunch with a coffee and Mac and Wild serve a Columbian blend with what I can only describe as THE most mouth-watering fudge I have ever eaten in my life!

Then it’s onto the hard stuff – cocktails, an area Mac and Wild are particularly passionate about, to the point where they actually forage locations such as Hampstead Heath for ingredients to infuse their cocktails with. Highlights included the Bonnie Brae (pictured above and served in a Harris Tweed hip flask), The Forager and The Tams Tears.

The Cocktails at Mac and Wild can be ordered by the glass or 500ML bottle, of which can be taken home as a souvenir!

The waiter insisted we tried a few ‘Wee Plates’ which included Haggis Pops, Venison Scotch Eggs and Venison Tartare – The real unsuspected highlight was the Haggis Pops, which were delicately battered and served with a sticky whisky sauce, I probably ate around 70% of these with my guest not getting much of a look in (sorry, not sorry).

Then onto the star of the show ‘The Scottish Breakfast’ – home cured bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade tatty scone, white pudding, mushroom, black pudding and lorne sausage. The scrambled eggs were so incredible, we had to get the chef out to find out his secret to the perfect eggs! The chef explained the process used to create fluffy, flavoursome eggs which involved sieving the eggs before adding double cream and cooking in butter!

I’m not sure if this is actually a rule, but we were told we couldn’t leave until we tried the chocolate pudding with salted caramel ice cream and honeycomb pieces, and thank goodness we did – it was absolutely exceptional.

So if you’re looking for a brunch with a bit of a difference in London look no further than Mac and Wild, you’ll be saying goodbye to the full English.
